REHABILITATION

Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists are available full-time, seven days a week. We are committed to furthering the individual’s ability to function at the highest, practical level of independence within the least restrictive environment.

Physical Therapy
Analysis of movement dysfunction and physical limitations relating to musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory impairment or skin breakdown requires the skills of a physical therapist. The profession is concerned with health promotion, prevention of physical disabilities, and rehabilitation


Treatment Interventions include:
Gait Training

Prescriptions for mobility and ambulatory aids Neurological retraining and muscular reeducation
Therapeutic exercise for strength,
endurance, and range of motion
Edema control
Balance and coordination training
Physical agent modalities
Prosthesis
Positioning protocols
Customized seating evaluations Work capacity retraining Orthotics

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy uses standardized testing and clinical observation with the goals of achieving a level of independence, preventing debility, and restoring and maintaining health. The role of the occupational therapist is to facilitate both a balance and optimal performance of occupational skills, self-care, work, rest, and leisure activities. Elements which affect occupational performance include: Fine and gross motor function, range of motion, strength, and coordination; Sensory-integrative function, including low vision and balance; Cognitive function (written communication, attention, problem-solving, memory); and Psychosocial function.

Treatment Interventions include:
Education energy conservation and work simplification

Training in the use of adaptive/assistive devices for activities of daily living (ADL’s) Teaching compensatory techniques
particularly for individuals with vision
impairment
Fabrication of custom splints to stabilize joints, reduce pain, or
prevent deformity
Health management education Discharge setting evaluations and
redesign using environmental
modifications to optimize access
Sensory reeducation Coping skills and stress management Home management retraining

Speech-Language Pathology
The goal of Speech-Language Pathology is to help optimize speaking and eating abilities.

Treatment Interventions include:
Enhancing swallowing abilities through practice in compensatory strategies and modifying food consistencies


Improving, understanding, and enhancing expression of verbal and written language by participating in functional communication tasks

Improving cognitive communication skills (memory, problem-solving, reasoning, safety, judgment, and thought organization to promote independence
Providing post-operative intervention for laryngectomy patients to regain communication Improving voice and speech quality through breath support, articulation and muscle strength Helping patients maximize hearing and providing information and counseling regarding hearing loss
