IT'S A WONDERFUL DAY AT BRIARWOOD!
Our
daily life at Briarwood is full of variety
and spontaneity. We make sure that each
day recreational activity sustains joy
and meaning in our residents’
lives. We promote our residents social
and emotional well-being through continuous
connections with our environment.
At Briarwood, residents participate
in the care of our pets. Walking, feeding,
bathing, and giving companionship to
a pet promotes the human spirit. One
feels the sense of accomplishment by
nurturing and giving love. Our Pet Committee
is attended by residents and care partners
to assure the care of our animals. Briarwood
is home to fish, birds, cats, and a
dog named, “Spud.”

Residents
partake in the cultivation of our gardens. Our residents
find satisfaction in seeing their hard work pay off. Briarwood
is lush with rolling gardens and window plants. Our community
has an outdoor garden patio with raised flower beds and
a huge vegetable garden. The residents start the vegetables
as seedlings and by the summer, we all enjoy the vegetables
utilized in our daily dining menu. Our Garden Committee
is attended by residents and care partners to ensure the
success of our green life. |

Intergenerational
activity is vital to enriching the human spirit. The interaction
of residents and children formulate incredible positive
feelings for both. Whether it is talking, creating a craft,
reading a book, or playing a game; relationships are formed
and sustained. The experience remains in the hearts of
our residents and in the memories of the children. Here
are some examples of what our Intergenerational Committee
facilitates: |

Birthdays
and Anniversaries are a special time at Briarwood. Our
resident decides on his or her dinner of choice to celebrate
that special day with their loved ones. Residents and
families can make the party as big or small as they
desire. The cake is brought in as all join in to sing
in celebration.
Each neighborhood has a calendar
of recreation that promotes meaning and purpose to our
residents’ lives. Residents have a choice of attending
any one of the many offerings.

Each
resident comes to this community with their own history,
preferences, interests, and skills. All persons have
the ability for personal growth. The goal of the Life
Enhancement Program is to find ways to assist each resident
to continue to experience personal growth and to maintain
those activities that give them pleasure now and in
the past. Enhancing the lives of residents is integral
to the mission of this community. Recreation and leisure
pursuits are developed with residents that provide for:
intellectual growth, spiritual growth, artistic and
creative endeavors, and physical activity; therefore,
encouraging intrinsically rewarding connections in daily
life.
Life enrichment is resident driven. Residents, families,
care partners and volunteers are actively involved in
developing and carrying out life enrichment activities
selected by residents. Residents will always have the
choice of participating, being an observer or not participating
in a life enrichment activity. Care partners within
the household collaborate to ensure that meaningful
activities for each resident are honored. Residents
are actively encouraged to share their skills and experiences
with other members of the neighborhood. The care partners
create opportunities for residents to learn new skills
or to try a new activity.
The Life Enhancement Program
assists residents in pursuing their most optimal health,
wellness and functioning by focusing on individual preferences
and needs that are of worth and value to them. We believe
everyone has the right to and need for recreational
involvement as part of one’s daily life and functioning.
The life enrichment activities assist in building confidence
and strengthen interpersonal relationships. They also
contribute to decreasing one’s fear, stress, and
anxiety. The Life Enhancement Program promotes a sense
of well-being regardless of one’s limitations.
Ultimately, life enhancement activities have purpose
and meaning which improves the quality of life so our
residents get more out of life.
